QUIET SUNDAY…ANOTHER CONCERT

Most of this day was spent reading and for the first time I spent an hour listening to my Spanish Lessons.  Es neccesario para mia habla Mexican.  Now to study spelling.

NOT MUCH IN THE CASH BOX TODAY

I left for a 6 pm concert, stopped for a Hot Chocolate, then discovered it had been moved to a closet on the other side of town where it was standing room only.  These musicians come from Venezuela, Argentina, Belgium,  etc.

I opted for sunset and sangria on the rooftop of the Crespa Culinary School over looking the memorial for the missing 43 in front of the Santa Domingo Basilica.

A flying camera followed me.   Flying Camera

Then as I was returning to the Zocalo for my last wine and a snack before I went home, I ran into an acquaintance I enjoyed named John. He had lived in Antiqua Guatemala and recommended I visit there.  He met a friend at the Book Fair and I watched the tail end of a nice concert in the Park

before settling in at Importando Restaurante for my Wine and assorted Crepes.  While I was reading I noted a lady from the back that looked familiar…same clothes I saw her in last winter. She was with a young, hippie, that I suspected was a Couchsurfer and the lady was my friend Darcy’s sister Pattie that takes in Couchsurfers since her and her husband retired from travel in South America and settled just outside of Oaxaca.  Angelica was from Oregon and drove her car here with only one incident in Casa Grande , Arizona that cost her a few days and a few bucks when her Toyota truck broke down.  She was a pretty, young intelligent lady.  Pattie remembered me and gave me Darcy’s cell number so I could reach him.  Next table over was Peter, a retired Canadian that lived just down the road from me at A Sol.  I told him I was putting my name in for his one bedroom but would probably die before he gave it up.  It was a nice evening. While waiting for the bus, a taxi came by so for $2.50 I rode home in comfort.

LIFE WITH A SPRAINED ANKLE…AND NO SHOES

The plumber arrived and got the toilet fixed , floor mopped and stopped by the Post Office to Mail by daughter’s Birthday Card. I was my first time there so spotted a lady with a handful of post cards and assumed she was American so asked.  Finish tourist sending Post Cards to friends…told me where to get stamps and weigh the mail. The Postal Worker directed me to the mail drop for out of Mexico and I went to the park and had some corn.
It was dinner time so Tres Bistro was calling with a Prosciutto Pizza and a half Carafe of wine.

The View

Took a taxi along with left over pizza and delicious chocolates …back home.

MEXICAN STAND OFF

While waiting for the taxi I witnessed the Mexican stand off.  A lady made a turn down a one way street and three cars followed.  There she encountered a line of traffic going the right way on the street.  No one could back up into either intersection because the cross streets were heavy with traffic and they all would have to back up.  So there they sat just waiting.  I walked on and caught my taxi.
The next morning my ankle was killing me.  I have no recollection of spraining it but that is what it was. I needed shoes and after the weekend a doctor.  I took the bus to a famous two story discount shoe store at the Plaza Valle but the Mexicans closed it down with some demonstration about the “missing 43” , inequality in justice and pay scale…a few others thrown in for good measure.  The plaza was shut down…

I crossed the street to Sam’s Club, renewed my membership, did some shopping and boarded the bus home.
The next night, Lisa, my new friend from Oakland and I met for Comida at the Santa Fe Restaurant but it had changed hands and I thought it best to return to Tres Bistro for another Pizza and wine.

Not much business

AFTERMATH OF A PARTY!

She eats with her Mexican family she stays with so shared the wine then we walked home.  We stopped at a new Mescal Bar that I was  unaware of but just opened around the corner from my home last week. She bought us a drink then stopped over for last call before returning to her “family” only a couple blocks from me.
The next day I didn’t want to try the Plaza again…when Mexicans protest it could be weeks…I’ll wait until Monday.  There was a concert…part of a series of Musical concerts with famous musicians from around the world.  I attended that at the Opera House at Noon.  It was another event that could only take place in Oz.

There were 14 or so Musicians on the stage.  One grand piano the rest Wood Winds and Brass.  There were another 14 or so Musicians positioned in the balcony second and third level surrounding the audience down below. They were stringed instruments, Brass and Wood Winds. No percussion. This created a lot of anticipation…what was going on.  I had never seen this before. Eight Cameraman were positioned in various locations to document this event.

The empty stage soon filled with the players, all standing up.  A flutist started lightly like a bird…then a clarinet from the balcony and so on until after about 5-10 minutes it became like 5 o’clock traffic in Mexico City on Friday.  The sound came from everywhere and kept changing as the players moved around the stage.  Some would face a wall then the audience, some would sit then stand, some would pick up a different instrument and put down the other, some would Mute their horns then not, some would exit left then re- enter on the right of the stage.

Players would stop then start…after about 15-20 minutes the “Conductor” came out from behind the piano then pointed to the musicians in the balcony and the music slowed and softened .  He returned to the piano and the music resumed it’s intensity until after about 30-40 minutes it drifted off and quieted while players slowly started exiting both the stage and the balcony one by one until the sound stopped and all were gone. The audience, some a who had walked out, clapped because it was over or because it was a very interesting experience.  I have never experience music like that and thought it thought provoking as well as a treat to my senses.

DONDE EST DAVID

QUE PASA DAVID?  Yes I saw him just the other day watching a woman being twirred about by this man on his back!

He is the one on the left …No?

CAN YOU DO THAT TO ME?

MAKES IT LOOK SO EASY
I’VE BEEN READING “TIGERMAN” SINCE I LEFT PHOENIX…GOT COLD ONE NIGHT AND GRABBED THE SPARE BLANKET TO WARM UP WHILE READING TIGERMAN…TURNS OUT I AM NOW TIGERMAN!!!
COINCIDENCE?  I THINK NOT…THIS IS OZ

RENTING IN OAXACA…

This came from Craig’s list…I have experienced some of this, so had to post it.

There is DENGUE in Oaxaca. I was told by the primary renter Gloria, that there were no mozquitos. That for an occasional mozzie, “Just spray citronella.”. Citronella had zero effect… Gloria said
that I did not need a mozquito net.
There were mozzies inside day & night. I bought a mozquito net. When I inquired of the owner if the screens on windows could be replaced, she responded that the man she gave money to for such did not return….
“Private”…..The owner & family home of 2 stories is directly across “your” small garden. Their ground floor is a Family Room which is in frequent use…..the window directly into your bedroom window.
Their upstairs window from there bedroom looks directly down into “your garden”.
Their house keepers bedroom & bath is directly past “your garden”. She is very nice and passes back & forth 6-days a week. The Mister passes in “your garden” by your windows frequently back & forth to roof without notice…
Your things may squeeze into the completely full closets.
I needed a bucket to flush the toilet.
The frig needs defrosting every 5 days.
If you like to cook…. The bathroom sink faucet has more water flow than the kitchen faucet. The kitchen counters are full as are kitchen closets.
“Quiet” as a kennel…..The family dog is let out of house from 4:45 A:M: until 10:30 P:M: She likes to bark at gate to street and with dogs over the walls.
There are at least 3 loud speakers on top of the church for announcements and to amplify bells: about 93 bells prior to each mass. On sun. there are 3 to 4 masses= about 300 to 400 bells….
Upon arrival, the apt was a huge cleaning job for me..
When the rains started in Spring 2014…….3 leaks in bedroom ceiling…….15 June MOLD started growing on bedroom ceiling, kitchen ceiling and bathroom ceiling.
This white fluffy MOLD is very toxic to human, the spores get into eyes, nose, skin and lungs…..
repiratory…..
The inside ceilings and walls need scraping, sealing and painting. The roof needs cleaning and sealing….
For my health, I had to vacate ASAP. I have not yet received refund of 1/2 months rent….

David gave Tere his landlady a complaint that the downstairs toilet didn’t flush.  Two weeks later it was fixed. That night David flushed the upstairs toilet but it kept filling up the tank until it reached the handle then the water just kept coming through the handle until he discovered it upon bedtime.  The bedroom was flooded.  He waded in to shut off the water to the toilet but as is the case in most …it was frozen open.  He finally stopped the flow by bending the float down and the landlady sent in the plumber the next morning…and the maid to mop up.

The Missing 43  – Students…this is all over Mexico

Still a few around…Christmas is coming though.

My other Date

Bless me Father because I need it…closest I’ve been to Mass…taken from across the street.

OAXACA OR OZ

FRIDAY

The end of the week , the beginning of the weekend…Friday in this magical city. I went to watch The Wild Bunch at the library and returned home.  I’m slowing down…or recharging?

SATURDAY

Bruce wants to show me his house for rent in Huayapam.  I am off to meet him at the Intercambios in the library where every Saturday Mexican and English students of language practice what they have learned.

Who’s the Boss?  Check out those Boots.

I wanted to pass this on.  I received it from another blog: View from Casita Colibri: Click on it and hope it works.

The Faces of Ayotzinapa

Brue and I left from the library and walked to the bus  stop that I used to catch the bus to my condo in Yartarini last year.  It was a similar bus and brought back memories.  A Walmart was under construction when I left and had wanted to visit it and see the changes. Bruce’s bus turned off for Huayapam just before the Walmart.  We got off near the house and a short walk and we were there.  It was a row of connecting Townhouses but he said just old single people lived next door.  No barking dogs or screaming children.  We couldn’t go in but he described it with two bedrooms, one bath, living room, kitchen and good sized patio out back.  It looked OK but across the street were dogs penned in but DOGS.  They were quiet but dogs don’t stay quiet…not a group like that.  My neighbor a few houses up turned out to be my Doctor.  That would be convenient .  The area is beautiful with the village surrounded by the San Andreas Mountain range and fresh air.  We took a bus back and got off at his place in a gated community.  He has a beautiful 3 bedroom , two bath with large American kitchen, patio , and a library.  We took a collectivo taxi to Walmart and had lunch at the Food Court in the Mall.

I did some shopping and he returned home.  I was exhausted hauling all that stuff so retired early that evening.

SUNDAY

Day of rest but eventually went to Tres Bistros at the Zocalo and had Chef’s Mahi Mahi and a 1/2 liter of wine.  Great. First time I left the house without my camera or hearing aides.  The guests eating at the nearby table were enjoying the Oysters Au Gratin and I couldn’t resist asking how they were as I was leaving.  The gentleman enjoyed them and we started chatting.  Then he gave me his card and I recognized him.  He was an artist that built his own home and was dining with the architect that did the plans, and his wife.  He invited me to stop by…don’t call just knock on the door.
It was a nice walk home and I was feeling good but strangely sad.  The dead ghosts of Oaxaca from the last 10,000 years were consoling me. The after effects of a 4 day Dias de Muerta festival.   I’ve come to believe what the natives believe…this is a dream and it only becomes real when we pass into the other world upon death.  We dream at night when we sleep and have day dreams during the day. When I look back on my childhood and the place I know best.  My memories of my Mother reading Robin Hood to me on the front porch when she was in her mid twenties, or teaching me how to cook in her thirties when she was my Den Mother in Cub Scouts, or working along side of her in her forties at the knitting mill then in the evenings washing dishes at the restaurant where she waited on tables.  We took the train, bus and drove her car to New England every year to visit her side of the family.  My parents took my wife in when I was in Vietnam and tended my children while she went to school in Buffalo.  Took me in after I returned and was divorced. Welcomed my new wife and our new child.  Dad too gave me memories at different times in his life.  Teaching me how to ride my first two wheeler, flying a kite, taking me to his Buffalo office in a high rise, helping him paint the garage he built or work on the car. All the time getting closer to the end.  Each memory is of a different time in their lives and mine…just a memory, a remnant of a dream.
I woke up crying and not knowing why but it felt good.  It’s been years…I treated myself.

MONDAY

When people die, what happens to their “Home” page on Facebook or any of the social media sites.  My friend David Wright died and everyone made it into a memorial to him. Tom Teven , my singer songwriter friend died and I clicked on an Unknown MP3 file and he came to life…singing to me again about the Crossroads in our lives.  Jimmy O’Connor died but his family took over his Bar and Web site.  We now live on the Internet after we are gone.  Like the magnetic fields the Internet takes us around the world until we surface at a Vortex or Website called Home. I do believe loved ones and family can and do communicate during and after life telepathic messages in dreams or trances.  I believe it because it happened to me once and was real.
OK , I’ve had my coffee…time to pick up the laundry all folded and neat…what $2.25! That’s outrageous…outrageously cheap and convenient.  I then went to the library to research rentals for next year.  I do this every year in hopes of finding a comfortable, sun shiny place with privacy yet close by and cheap. If I do…I will keep it as long as I keep coming to Oaxaca. I met Lisa from California on a Sabbatical to study Spanish.  She was looking also and I had the listing book where landlords post their offerings.  I told her about my place and she took down Tere’s email to check it out.

Better than it looks.

I had lunch at the Mercedes Hotel to pass a message from Kay to the employees and take a photo of them to pass back to Kay.  When I passed by her old studio I noticed a for Rent sign so took the number down and passed it to Linda.  I called but no answer.

I think I will relax and stop with the rants for a while.   If I post anything in the near future if will be PHOTOS.

Adios for a while…from OZ

Wish I knew the Wizard behind the curtain.

TUESDAY VETERANS DAY

OK …I changed my mind.  Hung out until Lisa came over over to see Los Nogales and see if she wanted to stay.  She did but won’t move in until…February…off to the beach for a while then home to Oakland and returns later to continue her study of Spanish language to teach elementary school.  She was two years in British Guyana and has traveled quite a bit.

My Neighborhood

I decided to honor Veteran’s Day by having a Steak dinner and Mescal.  Venturing into the Centro I stopped at Nuevo Mundo to wake up with a double cappacino and fortify myself with Apple Strudel.

Biznaga serves a great Steak, Mole, and Spanish Wine.  I had them all then stopped at my Zocalo newstand to pick up the NEWS so I could find the answers to yesterdays Crossword…then stopped at the Taverna for a couple of double shots of  Homemade Mescal out of a used Carlo Rossi Gallon Wine bottle…very good and I made it home without falling or taking a taxi. Happy Veterans Day…oxymoron.

WEDNESDAY

La Olla serves great food. One of the specialties is Oaxacaquena Tamale.

The library had a lecture on Trains, Trams, Scams, and Poncho Villa that I attended .  Very much enjoyed it.

THURSDAY

I returned to one of my favorite Cafe’s for Breakfast before viewing another apartment that was nice but expensive.  I am returning next week to see another in the same complex run by Barbara Perez from Western New York!  If I bring her Buffalo Wings maybe she will give me a better deal?

Mike, the ex-President of the library, invited me to look at his place that would be available next year.  We took the bus to San Felipe de Agua to see it.  Very nice AND cheap but looking at these places out of town…makes me realize that is NOT where I want to live.
Caught the return bus to my place just as it started to RAIN…stayed home.

LIFE IN OAXACA CONTINUES

SUNDAY

I received a reply from Cathi , whom I met in Spain while teaching English together. She was now in Oaxaca.  I emailed her back that I would meet her at a concert in the Zocalo that she was going to attend and left to do just that.
The Zocalo was packed but no concerts, as was the Santa Domingo, and Llano park.  I gave up and returned home to discover she had been with friends at a restaurant Le Jardin, that I passed by, and they all ran late so went home after.  We agreed to meet for Breakfast at a Vegetarian restaurant near Llano Park the next morning.

Story Telling

Sunday

I returned to the Zocalo that evening for a very nice Steak and Baked Potatoe at one of my favorite restaurants Tres Bistro then came home and retired early.

Another view from my restaurant.

MONDAY

Cathi and I were to meet at 11 am so I arrived nearby a little early to refill my wallet at the HSBC bank and get some copies of my passport, ID’s , etc made just in case.  I ordered a Mexican Hot Chocolate and grabbed a table for us.
She arrived with a friend from Florida and we all had a nice breakfast.  We exchanged histories of the last 20 years since we had met, took some photos, and remeniced about out week in Spain.  They went off to see Monte Alban and I to the Library to meet up with a Tour leaving for San Antonino to visit my last Panteon.

Bill and his brother Mike from Texas were there along with a large crowd of 70 that were joining me.  I donated some money to replenish the money spent for the remodel of the library  to continue with future plans. We boarded the bus.
San Antonino is in the country where a lot of all the flowers for the Dias de Muerta are grown.  Their Cemetary or Panteon has some of the more decortive displays.  We stopped for a nice lunch at a beautiful restaurant in the countryside then arrived around 3 pm at the Panteon.

There were a lot of families at the grave sites with their children, music , food , and of course flowers.  It was a festive atmosphere with a band playing outside of the gate, vendors selling Mescal, food, leather crafts, clothes, etc.  5:30 we departed the village and returned home.  The bus dropped me off early with a few others as it passed through my neighborhood.  One of the ladies was going my way.  She lived close by so we made plans to meet again when she was free for coffee and I was home to watch another episode of Orange is the New Black before bedtime.

Roll out the Barrel…no kidding.

TUESDAY

I have NO recollection of Tuesday…it disappeared.  Oh, I just remembered.  It was Men’s Night out.  A group of us from the library bring some thing to share to Casa Charles and have Happy Hour.  I met Steve by the library and we were the first to arrive and the last to leave…maybe that is why I was having difficulty remembering.  Oh… I had a late breakfast at A Sol…a nice place like this that rents studios, and one bedrooms with a beautiful roof top common area and a nice Cafe.

WEDNESDAY

The lady I met that was on the tour emailed me for coffee that morning.  I was waiting for the maid to clean the condo and declined but suggested we attend a Chamber Concert that night.  She was still fighting her cold and retired early.  I too had been working on the computer all day trying to assist my daughter with a letter of reference she needed and also decided to retire early. We agreed to meet the next day in Llano park for breakfast nearby.

THURSDAY

I was out of the gate at 9:30 am and got off the bus at Llano park.  I hadn’t seen my friend Hector that runs the News Stand on the corner so paid him a visit.  M, the lady friend showed up shortly after and we had a nice breakfast at the same restaurant Cathi and I met at four days ago.  It was as good as was the conversation.   She had been coming to Oaxaca on and off for I think 5 years.  I admired her language skills. I really have to start listening to my lessons!   She enjoys coffee like me and suggested the place across the street for another cup.  It happened to be one of my favorites and I hadn’t been there yet this trip so joined her. She left for a siesta and I did a little shopping before returning to Los Nogales where I am staying.

Great start but I fear I still have a lot of catching up to do so am relaxing and playing on my blog site.
There is an Organ Concert at the Bascilica, Cats is playing at the local Teatro, and another Chamber Concert tonight.  What am I doing here?
I took the bus to the Santa Domingo Bascilica

WHAT?

and arrived for the concert at 5 pm but there was no concert.  I went to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Biznaga, two of the owners recognized me and came over to welcome me back.  The waiters also.  Me with a beard now!  Must be I left all the same clothes here so I pretty much did look the same.
Great meal and Spanish Wine! I had Breast of Chicken stuffed with Baby Roasted Crickets and Cheese in a Squash Blossom Sauce.

I picked up some nice homemade bread nearby and walked home where I discovered the concert was at 6 pm but still not sure where it was actually held.  Life in Oaxaca can be complicated at times.  This is not the USA but then I wouldn’t be here if it was.

It was a full moon tonight….all over the world.

DAY TO DAY LIFE IN OAXACA DURING THE DIAS DE MUERTA

I had a mild case of Montazuma’s Revenge…from a greasy Taco maybe.  I did have a McBurger but doubt that was it.  I went back for an Egg McMuffin then to the airport.
David Shaver and his wife must have taken the 10 pm flight…too early for me.  The InterJet “SuperJet” was really nice.  We took off and in the distance you could see the SNOW capped Mountains of the Sierra Madre that surrounded Mexico City.  I did not see one of the largest and most monitored volcano in the world… Popocatepetl  It is the second largest in North America.  I was happy with lots of leg room, comfortable, and exits from the back and front after we landed and hour and 15 minute after boarding.
I took a “collectivo” to the hacienda Hostel de la Nogales where I was staying.  Tere answered, gave me my keys and had most of my furniture stuff at the condo for me.  I wanted to get my boxes to unpack.  They were still on the ground, under the stairway, outdoors where I left them.  Lots of spider webs but managed to get them over to the condo.  I didn’t want to unpack in the house.  I had no idea what I would find.

6 boxes and one large suitcase.

My neighbor Tom Wolfe made some sounds like I woke him slamming the door while I was going in and out.  He came out and told me he had been coming 4 years now.  He asked if I was going to stay long.  I said 6 months and he had to catch his breath.  He only stays 4 months and is used to having “HIS” BBQ and table and chairs to himself.  Now he has to share.  He was sick and went back to bed.
5 hours later I had unpacked the boxes but not my suitcase.  I decided to take the bus to the Zocalo (center) , eat and pick up some Vodka and water for the house.  It was dark and I got off the wrong stop and was going the wrong direction.  I corrected that when I discovered it and didn’t recongize the Zocalo when I arrived.  It was packed with people sleeping in pup tents.  The restaurants were open and I sat with the Gringos watching the Series.  I returned home after a Cubana sandwich and some red wine.

VIEWS FROM MY TABLE

I read my “NEWS” , a daily publication  in English, about Mexico, then walked a bit taking pictures.  A lot a Day of the Dead people painted up as Scary Dead people.  Took a taxi back and retired.

BACK IN THE SADDLE…NOW IN MEXICO CITY

My helpful neighbor agreed to drive me to the airport this morning but had a meeting to attend.  She was nice enough to ring my doorbell on her way out.  My alarm had been going for 10-15 minutes but of course I didn’t hear it.  I did hear the bell and woke, showered, dressed and was at the curb waiting for her when she returned from her meeting.

I arrived at USAir with my boarding pass in hand so just had to drop the bag and go to the gate.  One hour later I was on the 9:50 am direct flight to Mexico City.  I made the reservation months in advance to managed a seat in the bulkhead just behind first class.  The flight was sold out but a no show left the seat between me and the gentleman with an oxygen machine.  He lost half his lung a while back and now resides in Mazalan 6 months out  of the year.  He has been going there since he was 17 but says it’s changed…that is an understatment. He was on a flight from California and got stuck in Phoenix for three days then has a 3 hour layover in Mexico City.

We arrived around 1:15 and I was at my hotel checking in at 2 pm.  TSA opened my bags again.  That is 4 times now…that I know of.  Didn’t plan on doing much but when I went outside on the Tuesday night in Mexico City…it was hard to return.   I stopped down the street at a recommended restaurant and had the recommended Taco Al Pastor Especial with a Sol beer.  I was lost yet was around the corner from where I stayed a couple of years ago.

I got some coffee and returned to the hotel to freshen up.  Not a bad place.  Centrally located, clean, and cheap.

I got a map and oriented myself then took some photos, picked up some Vodka, OJ, Pringles and two McDonald Hamburgesas and returned to the room.

Your typical Tuesday night in Mexico City

My landlady had been waiting for me so I wrote again with the same dates and times. She read my English wrong I think.
I ran into David and his wife while picking up my baggage earlier.  David Shaver and wife…what’s her name, also live in Oaxaca 6 months a year and Scottsdale the other 6 months.  We met a couple of years ago through his son Andrew who went to school there.  Andrew is now working in Mexico City but now has a lady friend and may get married.  We are both flying the same flight into Oaxaca tomorrow. Big day unpacking all those boxes I put in storage last visit as well as the Day of the Dead events I have planned.  Good night.

FRIDAY…CHANGE OF PLANS

I was feeling the onset of Barbara’s Bronchitis and woke in the night with a sore throat, congestion and a real sinking feeling that my trip is over.  I never got up until almost 10 am and did not feel good.  I called my Uncle Johnny and told him I wasn’t driving up to New Hampshire that day to visit.  I was afraid I’d infect him. This could be something I picked up on the plane and manifested itself 2 days later.  I emailed Frank and Kathy and told them I was going to change my flight and return home ASAP where I could get rest and Doctor’s care.  They suggested I stay put, take some Antibiotics and get well.
I called Southwest Air to change my return flight to first available.  $450 they said.  That is what I paid for the round trip flight so it would cost me over $900 for round trip from Phoenix to Boston…almost what I paid to Europe and back.  I could wait until Monday and get a stop over flight for a $40 processing charge that sent me to Chicago for a 3 hour layover and left Boston at 5:30 AM.  I was pissed.   I thought I’d drive up to my cousin Ron’s home in the Adirondacks Mountains and hang out there for a day or two and see how I felt after.
I packed and left around Noon but on the highway I decided to drive as close to the Boston Airport as I could and find a cheap motel to sleep, take meds, and see how I felt.  I was feeling good but the Mass Turnpike turned into a stop and go nightmare and around 5 pm I was still about 80 miles from Boston and had stopped three times for a WI FI connection trying to find a cheap motel…no such thing with all the Leaf Peepers out for the weekend to view the fall foliage in New England. Signs up said Traffic Delay due to Holiday Traffic?  I had no idea what holiday until the local news started talking about Columbus Day Weekend!  That is a big deal in New England area.

After driving 20-30 mph on the 65 mph highway I decided to just get off and take a back road and stay at the first cheap place…a Comfort Inn had to be under $80…$170!  I found a Motel 8 for $90 but with Taxes $130…I took it.
I went out to get a bite to eat and mixer for my Gin ….an hour and a half later I made it back from the traffic with a frozen pizza, pocket burrito, bag of chips and some pink lemonade.  Great meal for a good nights sleep.
Using Google flights…I booked a flight for the next day, Saturday. that left Logan airport in Boston for Newark,  N.J. at Noon with a 3 hour layover then a 5 hour flight into Phoenix that would put me home at around 8 pm tomorrow…if I’m alive.  I can’t stay here.  The flight was to cost $300 one way…cheaper then $450…but when I went to pick a seat on the connecting flight out of Newark…all the economy seats were taken and I had to pay another $100 for a Premium economy seat and another $25 to check my bag.  I ended up saving $25 and could have had the direct flight with Southwest…too late…I just wanted to be home.  Now I have to get up at 7 am ,drive to Alamo to return the car and take the shuttle to the terminal to catch the Noon flight to N.J.  I have to go to bed.

Saturday.
Up at 7:15 then breakfast and on the Mass Pike at 8 am. Returned rent a car and shuttle had me at United by 10 am. Global Entry had me through the lines in less than a minute…no shoes, jacket, computer or anything to remove …just walk through the  metal detector and run your bag through the xray. Now the wait..departs for Newark at 12:30…Now 10:30…New England Clam Chowda sounds good.
Departed Newark arrived Phoenix 7:30 pm.  Shuttle Bus home 8:30 pm.  Unpack and Bed Midnight.  See you in Mexico.
